However, Ear Reshaping is a surgery that demands you to take several steps to help ensure that your treatment goes as smoothly as possible. Avoiding some points can help you recover faster, and also minimize the risk of complications.
You are required to inform your surgeon of pre-existing and current medications you have been prescribed for.
You should stop smoking instantly. Smoking slows the recovery after surgery and boosts your risks of post-surgical complications. All other tobacco products and electronic cigarettes are equally harmful and must be avoided. Any form of smoking – regular or e-cigarettes – is no longer permitted at this stage at any cost. Smoking involves risks such as delaying the recovery period, and may cause post-surgery complications. You must refrain from any other type of tobacco product, too.
Abstain from herbal supplementation and herbal teas within one week of your surgery.
We ask you to no longer take any type of blood thinning medication (i.e. aspirin, ecoprin, clexan). Please inform your surgeon if you are unsure about this, and they will gladly advise.
Painkillers are allowed if they contain paracetamol. If they do not, then you must inform your surgeon.
Ear Reshaping surgery involves anaesthesia, so you must not eat any type of food (including products such as chewing gum), or drink any type of beverage – including water.
Please take a bath or shower in the morning of your surgery. If this is not possible, then you must take a shower, or bath, the night before.
You must shave off all facial hair off prior to surgery.
Jewelry, contact lenses and makeup are not permitted.
Wear clothing that is comfortable and loose. Shirts that have buttons on the front are preferred. It is in your best interests to be comfortable, so bring adequate clothing for surgery. Our surgeon recommends buttoned-shirts, although not essential.
It is a bloodless surgery and aesthetic operation with minor to no pain.
Usually, patients might be discharged on the day of operation. For the first few days, you may have some pain, and you can take painkillers to ease the pain. For the first week, some slight swelling and local bruises are expected. Your surgeon recommends using a tennis headband during this period to maintain the new form of the ear. You will be able to return your healthy social life one week later, without any noticeable effect of the operation. During the first month after the surgery, it is a must to use the same bandage for sleeping.
If there are any sutures, they will be removed before your final check, at the latest.
