A Facelift is a surgical procedure for correcting the visible signs of facial and neck aging. Its purpose is to reposition underlying soft-tissues to help tighten and smoothen the skin of the lower face area, giving it a new refreshing look.
A part of the aging process, having a saggy and loose skin in the facial area, is very natural. A patient may struggle to adapt to these facial changes in older adult life, so therefore this gives them another chance of obtaining a youthful appearance and improves self-confidence.
The purpose of a facelift is to give a youthful appearance to someone who is aging quicker than expected. In this procedure, not only the skin but also the fascia tissue between the skin and the muscles, which is known as SMAS, is extended and raised what guarantees a constant stretching result.
A facelift involves an incision along the front side of the ear that extends around the back of the ear through the edge of the earlobe, creating a scar that can't be noticeable at a distance. Not only the face but also the neck and the temples are elevated too.
You have a dedicated team of patient advisors, nurses, and your surgeon to support you throughout the entire journey, and after it. However, Facelift is a surgery that demands you to take several steps to help ensure that your treatment goes as smoothly as possible. Avoiding some points can help you recover faster, and also minimize the risk of complications.
Please inform your surgeon of all the relevant details of pre-existing medications you have been prescribed for.
You must stop smoking immediately, and that includes electronic cigarettes and the use of any other type of tobacco product. Facelift has the highest risk amongst all plastic surgeries of post-surgery complications which include slower recovery time.
Please refrain from consuming herbal supplementations and teas.
Medications such as, aspirin, ecopirin, coumadin, clexan, coraspin, and other blood thinning medicines is now prohibited.
If you have to use painkillers (without paracetamol), please inform your surgeon and they will advise you. Painkillers that contain paracetamol are permitted.
Please be aware that no drinking or eating is allowed 8 hours before surgery, and that includes drinking water and chewing gum.
You must take a shower, or bath, on the night before your surgery, and/or an additional one the morning just before surgery.
Contact lenses must be removed on the day of surgery, and jewelry and makeup must not be present.
Preferably, wear a buttoned-shirt, although wearing comfortable and loose clothes remains top priority.
After the surgery, minor-mild pain is expected, and you will have swelling around the face from the first day. You will notice that your recovery will be almost complete by the end of the fifth day.
