Breast implants can be changed by removing or replacing them if desired. This cosmetic procedure is a simple process to remove the implants and any tissue, repairing the ‘pockets’ underneath the breast. At this stage, new implants can be added at the patient’s request.
Bodies, and particularly breasts, will inevitably change in the aging process, weight changes, and also after going through pregnancy. Your original implants may be too large or too small to feel because of all those reasons in time. The implants may have finished their natural lifespan; a lifestyle change indicates you don't want breast implants anymore. Feeling an aesthetic change is required to refine the appearance again in this case.
It is an operation where the old implants, exploded or reaction caused breast implants, are removed and the pocket is cleaned and new implant is placed. It is usually more comfortable for the patient than the first breast augmentation surgery. Breast implants are used in cohesive silicon gel structure. Many different problems may coexist in patients who require prosthesis replacement. These include capsule contracture, prosthesis rupture, improper placement or displacement of the prosthesis, sagging of the breast, and rupturing. Procedures for each of these can be performed during prosthesis replacement surgery. Therefore, it is not a standard surgery.
You have a dedicated team of patient advisors, nurses, and your surgeon to support you throughout the entire journey, and after it. However, Implant Changing is a surgery that demands you to take several steps to help ensure that your treatment goes as smoothly as possible. Avoiding some points can help you recover faster, and also minimize the risk of complications.
Your surgeon must be informed about all relevant details regarding medicine you have been prescribed currently, and previously.
Smoking cigarettes – regular or electronic – is strictly prohibited at this stage. Smoking may delay the recovery period and can cause post-surgery complications. Other tobacco products are also not permitted.
We strongly advise you abstain from any herbal tea or supplementation product.
Blood thinning medication (i.e. coraspin, aspirin, clexan), should not be taken within one week of surgery.
Painkillers are prohibited at this stage, unless they contain paracetamol. If you must use them, please inform your surgeon who will advise.
Refrain from any form of eating or drinking for at least eight hours before surgery. This also includes chewing on gum, or drinking water.
Please shower or take a bath the night before your surgery, and/or the morning prior to surgery.
Patients must not wear any jewelry or put on makeup. We kindly ask you to remove contact lenses too.
Your comfort is essential, so please bring loose and restful clothing. If possible, our surgeons prefer buttoned-shirts.
Your Implant Changing will be carried out with the utmost care by your surgeon and you can be sure that the same standard of care will continue during the regular post operative checks to ensure a smooth recovery.
A few weeks after surgery, soreness and swelling will fade away. Bruising might be expected after the surgery, too. Your scars will fade over in time but not disappear completely.
For extra support and positioning of the breast implants a sports bra will be given to you. And all the necessary medication will be prescribed by your surgeon if you need.
Surgery is almost painless when the implant is placed on the muscle. When the implant is placed under the muscle, the first day after the intravenous pain can be controlled by oral pain relievers and the pain is expected to last for a total of 4 days.
