Beard Transplantation is a surgical procedure to enhance the breadth and density of the beard. The method is similar to a hair transplant, which entails taking hair follicles from other parts of your head where it grows thicker, and implanting them around your mouth and jawline.
All men have a different range of beard types, and they are commonly passed down through genetics – similarly to male pattern baldness. Just like their head of hair, it is also not uncommon for men to feel ill-fated about their beard hair, or lack of, and would ideally like to increase volume, thickness, and fullness to the beard.
Beard transplantation is very similar to hair transplantation procedure. The area to be planted as the area is the cheeks and since the cheeks are the first visible place of our face, the team must be experts and ensure quality planting.
You have a dedicated team of patient advisors, nurses, and your surgeon to support you throughout the entire journey, and after it. However, this is a surgery that demands you to take several steps to help ensure that your treatment goes as smoothly as possible. Avoiding some points can help you recover faster, and also minimize the risk of complications.
It is essential to provide all the pertinent details to your surgeon regarding medications you are currently taking, and previously took.
All forms of smoking must be stopped at least three weeks before surgery, due to its link to post-surgery issues such as slower recovery times and chest infections. Inhaling e-cigarette vapor, breathing in second hand smoke and using other tobacco products must be avoided too.
Herbal products (i.e. teas, supplements) can cause a bad reaction when using anaesthesia, so please refrain from taking them.
We advise against you cutting your hair one week prior to surgery.
Blood thinners such as coraspin, aspirin, ecopirin, coumadin, clexan, and more, are now prohibited.
Please refrain from using painkillers if they do not contain paracetamol. If you need them, you must inform your surgeon who can advise on what the best course of action is.
Please shower before surgery, and put extra care into washing head and facial areas. We recommend washing on the morning of the surgery if possible, otherwise the night before.
To assist the surgeon, we advise you not to put on any jewelry, and makeup. Contact lenses should also be removed.
Wear loose-fitting clothes in order to enhance your comfort on the day of surgery. Our surgeons would recommend shirts with buttons on, although not necessary.
Your Beard Transplantation will be carried out with the utmost care by your Hair Transplantation team and you can be sure that the same standard of care will continue during the regular post operative checks to ensure a smooth recovery.
