Ear Reshaping is also known as otoplasty. The cosmetic procedure has the purpose of altering the patient’s shape of the ears (and earlobes) and or more typically, pinning the ears back.
Having ears that ‘stick out’ is a common problem for people of all ages and genders, particularly for women who opt to sport a new haircut/appearance revealing their ears more than they previously did. Alternatively, this operation can also allow keeping the ears in proportion with the head and making them symmetrical.
Ear Reshaping – also known as Otoplasty – is a minor bloodless surgery. In this procedure, your surgeon shapes the ear cartilage. The method does not cause any swelling and bruising on the face. Although there are advertisements that this surgery performs better with a thread without forming the cartilage, this approach will not be solving the projection problems permanently. The surgeon should perform classical techniques with relevant forming actions for a life-time result.
Ear deformities cause the patients quite a hard time in social life since their childhood. Once corrected, the patients can get a substantial psychological relief. That is the reason as to why all healthy individuals from the age of 5 years may take advantages of this operation.
You have a dedicated team of patient advisors, nurses, and your surgeon to support you throughout the entire journey, and after it. However, Ear Reshaping is a surgery that demands you to take several steps to help ensure that your treatment goes as smoothly as possible. Avoiding some points can help you recover faster, and also minimize the risk of complications.
Please inform your surgeon of all medicines that have been prescribed for, and other important health details.
Smoking cigarettes – regular or electronic – is now prohibited, as smoking is likely to cause the recovery process to be slower, and increases the chances of their being post-surgical complications.
We recommend not consuming any type of herbal teas or supplements.
Medication that prompts blood thinning such as aspirin, ecopirin, coumadin, coraspin and clexan are now prohibited.
Only take painkillers if they include paracetamol, otherwise they are not recommended one week prior to your surgery. If they are needed, you must let your surgeon know.
There is an 8-hour window prior to your anaesthesia in which you cannot eat or drink, and that all includes drinking water and chewing gum.
It is essential to take a shower the night before the surgery, or on the day of your surgery.
Do not wear contact lenses, jewelry and/or makeup.
Wear clothing that is comfortable and loose. Shirts that have buttons on the front are preferred. It is suggested to wear clothing that you feel comfortable in, and preferably, shirts that include buttons.
It is a bloodless surgery and aesthetic operation with minor to no pain.
Usually, patients might be discharged on the day of operation. For the first few days, you may have some pain, and you can take painkillers to ease the pain. For the first week, some slight swelling and local bruises are expected. Your surgeon recommends using a tennis headband during this period to maintain the new form of the ear. You will be able to return your healthy social life one week later, without any noticeable effect of the operation. During the first month after the surgery, it is a must to use the same bandage for sleeping.
If there are any sutures, they will be removed before your final check, at the latest.
Your surgeon will give you comprehensive pre-operative guidance before the Ear Reshaping, also give you directions and recommendations afterwards. Follow all of these guidelines to help ensure your ease, prevent risks, and speed up the recovery.
